What to ask your esthetician

The 5 best questions to ask your esthetician to ensure you get the best facial possible.

The reason I designed Wild Bird Beauty to be completely customizable and all-inclusive is because I firmly believe the best facial is the one most expertly tailored to the individual, from products to treatments, as opposed to leaving it to the client to make awkward decisions.

Since I know everyone can’t or won’t come to Wild Bird Beauty, I thought I’d offer some cheat questions to ask your esthetician so you can make the most of your facial. We all know what it’s like to have your esthetician ask you 101 questions, but now let’s turn the tables!

The 5 best questions to ask your esthetician:

Q1: Based on my skin type and the concerns I mentioned, what kind of facial will be best for me?

A: You want to ask this question at the beginning, so you’re not under pressure to pay for upgrades. You want an honest opinion up front, and you don’t want a generic answer.

Q2: What products and ingredients will you be using today?

A: You want to hear an enlightened answer, not dodgy language. Ingredient choice is very important and it should be done with a lot of purpose. What benefits should you expect?

Q3: How long will today’s facial last?

A: You’re paying for it so you want to get the most out of it. If you feel rushed out, it’s a sign.

Q4: Are there any side effects or risks I should know about?

A: If you have to ask, it’s already not a great sign, but better safe than sorry. If you’re pregnant, have certain health issues, just have sensitive skin, or even just have a wedding coming up, your esthetician should know.

Q5: What’s most important for my ongoing beauty routine?

A: They will of course introduce you to their products, but you’ll know it’s a good sign if they suggest something they don’t sell, and be wary if the product they say you most need just happens to be the most expensive one they sell!

All in all, you should feel like your esthetician knows your skin a little better with every visit. Don’t be bashful about asking questions, even if they sound dumb in your head. I love being asked questions, because I’m passionate about skin care, and it feels great to be able to help.
