Valentine for Cynics

Hi Birdies,

There are many things I miss about my home country, Brazil. Four kinds of carbs at every meal. The beach. The outgoing culture. But Valentine’s Day is not one them.

Down there, it really is the Hallmark cliche so many Americans roll their eyes at now. Man and woman on a date, chocolates and flowers. I have found that here in the US, V-Day is more inclusive and well, loving. Kids coloring in hearts at school for their parents. Siblings sending cards to each other. Friends exchanging gifts.

If you step back and take an outsider’s perspective, you might really appreciate Valentine’s Day. It’s perhaps too easy to be cynical about the consumerism of it all - the drugstores putting out cheap gifts on January 2nd. A loving gesture can mean so much to someone beyond your spouse or life partner.

I certainly get my fair share of husbands gifting facials to their wives (and trust me, husbands, they like it). But this year I’m going to try something different. Gift a facial to anyone, friend to friend, student to teacher, boss to employee and get the reward for spreading the love.

Buy a gift card for someone, and I’ll give you a second facial for yourself, 10% off. Reply to this email to learn more.
